Many photographers think editing is the main part, but honestly, the lighting setup during the shoot saves hours of retouching later. Babies don’t wait. They sleep, move, or cry anytime. So your lighting must be ready before the shoot starts.

Best for:

Find the Sun Direction

Natural light changes quickly. Always check where the sun moves during the day.

Morning or late afternoon light works best because it stays soft and warm.

 

Keep the Room Neutral

Bright colored walls or clothes can reflect unwanted color on the baby's skin.

Best choices:

• White walls
• Beige or soft neutral backgrounds
• Light-colored clothing

From an editor’s perspective, neutral environments make color correction much easier.

 

Use Reflectors Instead of Strong Flash

Strong flash can create harsh shadows. A simple reflector helps bounce light softly and keeps the baby comfortable.
